Astronomy Day Past

July 12, 2009
Had another Star Party at Nova Hill on Friday night. About 12 members and visitors attended. The sky was clear, and the viewing was good. We took a look at Episilon Lyrae & Alberio (double stars) and M4, M13 and the Ring Nebulae, to name some of our targets. Of course, the moon came up about 11:30, almost full and very bright, putting an end to most of our viewing. -- andy

Last night's star party (Friday) at Nova Hill was pretty good, although the seeing could have been better. We set up the 30" telescope, and turned the Bone Dome around once or twice to look at some night sky objects. Ted brought out his 16" (?) and we were able to check out several more wonders, including M81 & M82. Had several visitors, including some of my relatives. Overall a nice time! -- andy

Happy New Year! It is the International Year of Astronomy and I think we have a lot of good ideas this year for sharing astronomy with our neighbors. Look forward to sharing the skies with you!

Just to get this page started, I wanted to remind everyone that Club Elections are coming up in February. Positions to be voted on will be Observing/Equipment Director (currently held by Fred Johnson); Public Affairs / News Director (currently held by Andy Oliver); and Secretary/Treasurer (currently held by Susie Lowery).
We also still have an open position for an Affairs Director, whose responsibilities include generation of club funds, and promotion of SAAA to other civic groups.

Remember that there are only two more showings of Season of Light at the Planetarium -- this Thursday at 8pm and this Saturday at 2pm. If you haven't seen the program, it is pretty good! Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas season. (Andy)
